The construction of the Building of Brera began in 1651 to work of Francis Maria Ricchini above to an ancient fourteenth-century convent of the order of the Humiliated ones. The jobs for the building were completed in 1773 and in the 1780 Joseph Piermarini it effected some completions adding you an enormous portal.
Inside the rectangular courtyard of Building Brera, constituted to orders of arcades on columns, the bronze statue of Napoleone I it is situated as reconciler Mars. The work created in Rome in the eight hundred is attributed to Anthony Canova.
Subsequently, taken fù the decision to destine some areas of the building among which the courtyards, the loggias, corridors and atria as places to remember and to commemorate artists, benefactors, men of culture and science. Among the present sculptures worthy of note I am the monument to Caesar Beccaria of Pompeo Marchesi and that of Gaetano Monti to Joseph Parini
Currently in the solid building in Baroque slow style Lombardo, have center numerous cultural institutions as the Pinacoteca of Brera, l ' Belle's Arti Academy, the National Library Braidense, the Astronomic observatory. the Botanical garden and the institute Lombardo of Sciences and Letters and the academy of Belle Arti.
